Norfolk, VA (Sept. 15) - The Old Dominion Monarchs fell to Princeton Sept. 15, 2-1 in the second game of the Stihl Soccer Classic. With the loss, the Monarchs drop to 1-2-1 on the year while Princeton moves to 2-0.
Senior Tommy Barnicle (Liverpool, England) took an assist from teammate Martin Crowley (Coventry, England) for the Monarch's only goal of the game. After being tied at halftime, Princeton's Matt Behncke scored his second goal at 63:39 to seal the win for the Tigers.
Princeton outshot the Monarchs 12-8 for the game and held a 8-6 advantage in corners. Senior Matt Landman (Beverly, MA) had five saves in the net for the Monarchs.
In game one, Georgetown netted three straight second-half goals to secure the win over the Tribe. Kenny Owens, Khary Robinson, and Nate Post each scored goals as the Hoyas improve to 4-1 on the year. Freshman Phillip Hucles scored the lone goal for the Tribe, which drops to 2-2 with the loss.
Both Old Dominion and William and Mary will return to action on Sunday in the final games of the Stihl Soccer Classic. The Tribe will take on Princeton at 12 noon, followed by Old Dominion and Georgetown at 2:30.
