BUIES CREEK, N.C. (Aug. 26) - Freshman forward Chad Denton(Va. Beach, VA) scored a goal with 30 seconds remaining to lift the Old Dominion men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Campbell University on Aug. 26. The Monarchs outshot Campbell 11-8 and held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks for the game, but were forced to come from behind to win.
Campbell's Antonio Da Silva opened the game with an early goal for the Camels just 3:04 into the match. After a foul inside the ODU box, Da Silva scored on a free kick to put the Camels up 1-0. The score would hold until the second-half, when Monarch midfielder Carlos Mendes(Mineola, NY) evened the game at the 61:00 mark. Freshman forward Attila Vendegh(Bratislava, Slovakia) and goalkeeper Sam Cameron (Raleigh, N.C.), picked up the assist on Denton's go-ahead goal with just seconds remaining.
The Monarchs will open the regular season at home on September 2, when they host UNC-Greensboro at 7 p.m.
