NORFOLK, VA. - Old Dominion University men's soccer squad used four second half goals to defeat the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil), 4-0 in an exhibition match on Aug. 24.
Freshman Attila Vendegh (Bratislava, Slovakia), junior Carlos Mendes ( Mineola, NY.), senior Tommy Barnicle (Liverpool, England), and Phil Coates (New Castle, England) all scored for the Monarchs. Vendegh put Old Dominion on the board first with 36:53 left in the match on a penalty kick. Mendes then scored five minutes later to make it 2-0. Barnicles goal was assisted by Jared Kent (Marietta, Ga.) With 11:12 remaining. The Monarchs final goal came with 6:36 left in the match on a penalty kick from Phil Coates.
Old Dominion outshot Sao Paulo, 15-4 as Monarch keepers, Matt Landman (Beverly, MA.) and Sam Cameron (Raleigh, NC.) posted the shutout.
Old Dominion returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Buies Creek, NC., to play Campbell University in their final exhibition match. Sao
Paulo travels to Williamsburg to play William and Mary on Saturday.
