Waller signs with Monarchs

NORFOLK (May 18, 2000) -- Old Dominion University men's basketball coach Jeff Capel announced May 18 that John Waller III, the Capital District Player-of-the-Year from Richmond, VA., has signed a letter of intent with the Monarchs.

Waller, a 6-4 forward from Highland Springs, scored more than 1,100 points during his high school career and set a single-game scoring record this year when he tossed in 60 points against Lee-Davis high school. He averaged 26.4 points a game and 8.2 rebounds and earned first-team All-Central Region and All-Metro honors.

"John's outstanding shooting ability will help our program and we believe he has the potential to become a solid collegiate player," says Capel.

Waller becomes the second player from Highland Springs to play for Capel, including Reggie Bassette, who graduated from Old Dominion last spring.
