Blackburn Named Second Team Academic All American

NORFOLK, VA (April 12, 2000 -- Old Dominion senior soccer player Spiros Blackburn (Denton, TX) was selected as a second team GTE Academic All-American by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on April 12. Blackburn was previously honored as a first team District III Academic All-American.

The senior defender owns a 3.92 grade-point-average in mechanical engineering. His senior guidance helped the soccer Monarchs to their first national ranking (# 13) since 1991 along with their first-ever CAA regular-season title.

Blackburn and senior teammate Jimmy Tanner (Syracuse, NY) each earned Academic All-American status this season, as Tanner earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) first team honors, marking the first time in school history two men's soccer players have owned the honors in the same year.
