McCullum Leads ODU Men Past American, 62-57

NORFOLK, Va. (AP, Jan. 19) - Andre McCullum scored nine of his 13 points in thesecond half, including a key jumper to protect a precarious lead andthen four free throws in the last 11 seconds, as Old Dominion held on to beatAmerican 62-57.

Old Dominion (7-11, 2-5 Colonial Athletic Association) led by 46-35with 12:54 to play, then saw American close the gap to two on threeoccassions. Each time, the Monarchs answered with a basket, the last by McCullum with2:12 to play to make it 57-53.

American (7-9, 2-3) got no closer than four thereafter as neither teamscored for more than two minutes until McCullum hit two free throws with11 seconds left.

After Patrick Doctor made two at the line for American with :09 left,McCullum again made two from the line and the Monarchs led 61-55 withjust :08 to play.

Doctor led American with 20 points and Saliou-Binet Telly and KeithGray had 10.

Freshman Ricardo Marsh scored a career high 15 points, while McCullum recorded his fourth double-double adding 10 boards. The Monarchs play at William and MaryJan. 22 at 7 p.m.
