FAIRFAX, VA - Old Dominion men's soccer coach Alan Dawson picked up his second coaching award of the year as he was voted Virginia Men's Soccer Coach of they Year by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (Va.SID). Dawson, who guided the Monarchs to a 15-4-0 record, #13 national ranking, and CAA regular season championship, was voted CAA Coach of the Year in November.
Monarch senior forward Jimmy Tanner (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers), the 1999 CAA Player of the Year, picked up Va.SID first team honors. Tanner led the CAA and ranked in the top six in the nation in scoring with 44 points on 20 goals and four assists.
Sophomore midfielder Carlos Mendes (Mineola, NY/Wheatley School) and freshman midfielder Michael Tooley (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) each picked up Va.SID second team honors. Mendes was an All CAA first team performer, lending one goal and ten assists to the regular season champs, while Tooley earned All CAA second team honors in just his freshman season.
Lady Monarch senior midfielder Jessalyn Martin (Richmond, VA/Hermitage) earned Va.SID second team honors. She finished second on the team in scoring with five goals and one assist for 11 points and she was an All CAA second team performer.
