Tanner earns Player of the Year and All CAA First Team honors after landing acareer-high 18 goals and assisting on four others to finish first in the CAAwith 40 points. He is ODU's first men's soccer player of the year since NeilPaynter in 1991.
For Dawson, it was his first CAA Coach of the Year award since inheriting a3-17-0 after the 1995 season. Since then, Dawson pioneered the Monarchs toseven wins in 1997, eight in '98 and 14 in ?99, along with the team's first-ever#1 seed in the CAA Tournament.
In addition to Tanner, 1998 CAA Rookie of the Year Carlos Mendes (Mineola, NY)earned All CAA First Team honors after scoring one goal and adding nine assistsfor the team in 1999. His nine assists in 17 games rank him 19th nationally.
Old Dominion placed three members on the All CAA Second Team, including twofreshmen. Senior goalkeeper Chuck Connelly (Rockville, MD) earns the honorsafter leading the 17th-ranked Monarch defense to seven shutouts on the seasonand a CAA-low 0.76 team goals against average.
In addition, freshman defender Anders Haugom (Gjovik, Norway) and freshmanmidfielder Michael Tooley (Richmond, VA) earned second team honors. Haugom aformer member of the U-18 Norwegian National Team earned the honors in just hisrookie season after starting all 17 matches and playing every minute of everygame on the defensive side of the field for ODU. He also landed one goal andassisted on two others.
Tooley, a standout from Richmond's Mills Godwin High School, earned second teamhonors after finishing fourth in the CAA with 23 points on eight goals and sevenassists. He and Haugom were two of three freshmen to earn second team honors asAmerican's Nino Marcantonio earned CAA Rookie of the Year and All CAA SecondTeam honors.
VCU defender Emmanuel Tetoit was awarded CAA Defender of the Year. Overall, OldDominion and Richmond placed five members on the All CAA teams, while VCU placedfour, William and Mary three, JMU two and American, ECU and UNCW one a piece.
