No. 16 Monarchs Upset by Richmond, 1-0 in Men's Soccer

RICHMOND, Va. - (Oct. 16) Richmond midfielder Cam Letke scored in the 33rd minuteto lift Richmond to a 1-0 victory over the visiting Monarchs Tuesday in men'sCAA soccer action. No. 16 Old Dominion (11-3-0, 6-1-0), drops its first CAA game ofthe season, but remains in first place, while Richmond (9-5-1, 5-2-0) moves into solepossession of second place.

Letke's goal was launched past a charging Chuck Connelly (Rockville, MD),the Monarch goalkeeper, at the 32:14 mark. The Monarchs were unable to answerin the first half and went into halftime trailing, 0-1.

In the second half, it was much of the same as Old Dominion mustered sevenshots but was unable to connect. Richmond, on the other hand, continued to bombardOld Dominion, firing 12 shots in the first half and another 10 in the secondhalf.

Connelly made seven saves in goal for ODU, which drops its first gamesince a 0-1 loss to Loyola (MD) on September 18. The Monarchs have one CAA gameremaining, with UNC Wilmington on November 7, and can still clinch their first-ever CAAtitle with a win.

Old Dominion will return to action this weekend, as the team travels toCharleston, S.C., to participate in the College of Charleston tournament. The Monarchs play Charleston on Saturday at 5:00 pm and then face South Carolina on Sunday at 12 noon.
