NORFOLK, VA (October 25) -- Old Dominion men's soccer team, in the midst of its best season since 1991, earned its first national ranking in nine years as the Monarchs were ranked #16 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll. Old Dominion (11-2-0, 6-0-0) earned the recognition after blanking #15 Virginia Commonwealth, 1-0, on Saturday night to remain undefeated in the perennially tough Colonial Athletic Association.
The 1991 edition of the Old Dominion men's soccer team finished the season at 18-2-2 and ranked ninth in the country. That team also finished 5-0-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association, won the conference tournament and advanced to the NCAA tournament.
The Monarchs have already eclipsed the team record of five CAA wins set by the '91 team and are compete their first ever CAA regular-season championship on Tuesday night when they play at Richmond at 7:30 pm. The Spiders (8-6-1, 3-2-0), are currently in second place in the CAA after knocking off James Madison on Saturday night, and a win or tie by the Monarchs clinches the regular-season title.
