FAIRFAX, VA (October 22) -- Old Dominion's women's soccer team was defeated by George Mason, 6-2, as Patriot forward Jamie Ricker completed a hat trickand All CAA forward Katy Robertson scored two goals. The Lady Monarchs drop to 7-8-0on the season, 2-5-0 in the CAA as George Mason improves to 8-8-0, 4-3-0.
Old Dominion took the lead in the 11th minute when sophomore forwardMelanie McGovern (Somerdale, NJ) connected on her sixth strike of the season. GMUlater tied the game in the 15th minute on Ricker?s first blast of the game.
Kristen Murray (Wappingers Falls, NY) made it 2-1 Old Dominion in the 16thminute when she headed an Anna Gruzalski (Oak Ridge, TN) cross into the net.Robertson later tied the game at two in the 18th minute on a 15 yard blast into themiddle of the net off a Ricker assist.
Ricker then made it 3-2, GMU, with seven minutes remaining in the firsthalf, placing an unassisted shot into the net from eight yards out. At the half, it was3-2 George Mason.
In the second half, it was all GMU as Ricker scored her third goal in the49th minute, followed by Robertson?s second goal in the 71st minute and AngelaLombardi?s strike with less than five minutes to play. For the game, George Mason out-shotOld Dominion 18-11 and out-cornered the Lady Monarchs 4-3.
The Lady Monarchs play in the second game of their weekend road trip whenthey square off against American on Sunday at 1:00 pm at Reeves Field. Theteam returns home for their final game of the season on Saturday, October 30th, as theyhost Radford at 3:00 pm.
