Freshman Lead Monarchs Over Liberty, 3-0

NORFOLK, Va. (August 27) -- Freshmen midfielders Michael Tooley (Richmond, VA) and Giovonni Solorzano (Irving, TX) led the Monarchs to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Flames of Liberty today in a pre-season matchup at the Old Dominion Soccer Stadium. Tooley netted two goals while Solorzano had one.

Tooley opened the scoring in the first half with a 15-yard blast on a loose ball in the box in the 21st minute. Solorzano scored on his first shot of the game, with a header into the net on an assist from senior forward Jimmy Tanner (Syracuse, NY). Tooley capped off the scoring with another 15 yard blast, this time on a pass from Tanner in the 68th minute.

The Monarchs out shot the Flames 13-4. Old Dominion opens its regular season on Wednesday, September 1, as the team travel to Delaware to take on the Blue Hens.
