RICHMOND, VA -- All five Lady Monarch starters scored in double-figures as the 12-timedefending CAA champions improved to 10-6 overall and 5-1 in conferencegames with a 80-64 victory over Virginia Commonwealth Thursday night at the Siegel Center. VCU dropped to 5-9 on the season and 2-4 in league play aftersuffering its second straight defeat.
Virginia Commonwealth was led by senior Cyndy Wilks, who delivered a game-high 27 points but the Rams could not overcome a significant first-half deficit in the loss. Old Dominion senior Max Nhassengo (Maputo, Mozambique) led all Lady Monarch scorers with 18, while sophomore Lawona Davis (Port St. Lucie, FL) tied her career and season-high with 17 points. Both seniors Myriah Spence (Espanola, NM) and Monqiue Coker (Bronx, NY) added in 14 and point guard Shareese Grant (Va. Beach) rounded out the Old Dominion scorers in double digits with 11.
ODU held the Rams scoreless for nearly a 10-minute stretch in the firsthalf and strung together 17 unanswered points to take a commanding 30-9advantage with 5:44 remaining before intermission. VCU closed out theopening period with a 6-0 run which cut its deficit to 36-21 at the break,then got to within 13 points of the Lady Monarchs
