Gerald Lee, a native of Finland, graduated with his name mentioned several times in the Old Dominion men’s basketball record book, including as the all-time leader in games played with 137. A two-time captain of the team, Lee led the team in scoring in his sophomore, junior and senior seasons, and earned Mid-Major All-American status twice in 2009 and 2010 by College Basketball Insider. In his senior season, Lee led the Monarchs to a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Championship, defeating VCU in overtime and beating William & Mary in the championship game, and was named the CAA Tournament MVP. A week later, Lee helped ODU, an 11-seed, upset sixth-seeded Notre Dame in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, 51-50. Lee was named first team All-CAA twice and second team All-CAA once, and finished his ODU career with 1,624 points and 670 rebounds, the 11th-most and 19th-most in school history at the time of his graduation, respectively. After his tenure with the Monarchs ended, Lee enjoyed a successful basketball career in Europe, spending nine seasons playing basketball in Romania, Italy, France, Montenegro and in his home country of Finland in Helsinki. The 6-foot-10 Lee graduated in 2010 and was inducted in the Old Dominion Sports Hall of Fame in 2019.
