Men's Tennis Tops Lafayette For 6-1 Road Win

 
 
LAFAYETTE, La. – The 62nd-ranked Old Dominion men's tennis team won five first sets in singles and used that momentum to knock off previously undefeated in conference play Louisiana 6-1 on Sunday in a Sun Belt Conference encounter.
 
"This was by far our best and most complete match of the year. To play the undefeated conference leader on the road and beat them 6-1 is something to be proud of," said ODU Head Coach Dominik Mueller. "The boys stepped up today after playing without Younes and Brandon all weekend and they never let their foot off the gas."
 
In doubles, the Monarchs got wins at the top two spots to take the team point. Francois Le Tallec and Cosme Rolland De Ravel recorded a 6-3 win at line two, while Jakob Cadonau and Luca Maldoner gave ODU (13-9, 5-1) the doubles point with a 6-4 win at line one.
 
Singles saw Louisiana get on the board at line two, but ODU got on a run to sweep the remainder of the matches. Rolland De Ravel won 6-0, 6-1 at line three to put ODU up 2-1 and Maldoner followed with a 6-4, 6-1 win at line five for a 3-1 lead.
 
Le Tallec came with the clincer at line one winning 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 for a 4-1 lead with Nicola Vidal following with a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) win at line six to go up 5-1. Cadonau finished the deal with a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4) win at line for to give the Monarchs a 6-1 win.
 
ODU now hosts Coastal Carolina on April 9 at 10 a.m. at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
