Men's Tennis Sweeps Singles To Knock Off Southern Miss 6-1

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – After dropping the doubles point on Saturday, the Old Dominion men's tennis team rebounded and swept all six singles matches to take a 6-1 Sun Belt Conference win over Southern Miss.
 
"We came out slow in doubles today. Southern Miss played big, took it to us and we didn't do a good job of handling it," said ODU Head Coach Dominik Mueller. "I'm proud of how we responded in singles winning five first sets and ultimately all singles points. Road wins are not easy to come by and winning 6-1 on the road is encouraging."
 
The hosts won doubles taking victories at the two and three spots. ODU (12-9, 4-1) took a 6-4 win by Jakob Cadonau and Luca Maldoner at line one at the time of the doubles point clinched by Southern Miss (6-11, 0-3).
 
In singles, the Monarchs took five of six first sets and continued a run en route to sweeping all six matches. Francois Le Tallec got the Monarchs even on the scoreboard with a 7-5, 6-1 win at line one, with Nicola Vidal giving ODU a 2-1 lead with a 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) win at line six. Cadonau put the Monarchs up 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-4 win at line four as Codie van Schalkwyk clinched the win with a 6-3 second set after pulling out a 13-11 tiebreaker in the first set at line two.
 
ODU finished it off with wins by Cosme Rolland De Ravel at line three winning 4-6, 7-6 (7-0), 1-0 (10-7) and Maldoner at line five with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 win.
 
The Monarchs now head to Louisiana for an 11 a.m. match on Sunday,
