Men's Tennis Finishes Action At River City Open

RICHMOND, Va. – The Old Dominion men's tennis team finished competition at the River City Open on Saturday and came out of the event with a good showing.
 
ODU competed in four singles matches and one doubles match on Friday, while Saturday saw them in four singles matches all at the Country Club of Virginia.
 
On Friday, the Monarchs went 2-2 in singles losing a pair to Virginia, while against Longwood the Monarchs won both matches. Maxine Mareschal-Hay scored a 2-6, 6-1, 10-4 win over Lorenzo Meschini, while Parker Collins-Flores defeated Vsleovod Rusin 6-2, 6-2. In doubles, the Monarch duo of Connor van Schalkwyk and Cosme Rolland De Ravel knocked off Oliver Hague and Alexander Karman of William & Mary 6-1.
 
Saturday saw the Monarchs take on William & Mary in four singles matches and came out with three wins. Rolland De Ravel defeated Karman 6-1, 6-1, while van Schalkwyk defeated Hague by the same score. Collins-Flores finished out a 2-0 weekend with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Albert Hansen.
 
"It was a good two days of matches for our guys that are coming back from injuries," said ODU Associate Head Coach Othmane Lalami. "This is exactly what we were looking for. Getting the rust off, improving from day one to day two and identifying what we need to keep getting better to be ready for regionals next week."
 
ODU will head now to Lynchburg starting on Thursday for the ITA Atlantic Regionals hosted by Liberty.
