WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Old Dominion (8-3) baseball team is set to take on William & Mary for a midweek ball game on Wednesday, March 10. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at Plumeri Park.
ODU and the Tribe have a storied history, meeting 139 times in the past. Wednesday's contest will mark the 140th meeting as ODU seeks its 86th win over the Tribe. Tommy Gertner is slated to make his second start of 2021 on the bump for ODU, putting in 8.2 innings of work so far this season. The junior has compiled eight strikeouts, including six at No. 17 ECU.
The Monarchs are coming off a 3-1 week, highlighted by a road win over No. 17 ECU on Wednesday, March 3. An Andrea Dalatri three-run home run lifted the Monarchs over the Pirates in extra innings.
Over the weekend, ODU took down Northeastern on Friday and Sunday to pick up its second series win. Both ODU wins were decided in walk-off fashion. Freshman Carter Trice was named C-USA Hitter of the Week on Monday afternoon following his standout week, going yard three times, highlighted by a fourth inning home run in ODU's statement win over No. 17 ECU on Wednesday. Trice also helped lift ODU past Northeastern on Friday for a series-opening win with a first inning home run and an eighth inning home run to knock in two runs. ODU went on to win its series over the Huskies.
About the Tribe
William & Mary lost back-to-back contests against Central Michigan. Its lone victory on the season came on March 6 with a 4-1 win over George Mason. The Tribe will be playing at its home field for the third time this season. The Tribe was selected to finish fifth in the CAA South Division.
