LAKE WORTH, Fla. – The Old Dominion men's golf team finished play at the Southern Invitational on Tuesday at the par-72, 6,757-yard The Falls Club. The Monarchs finished fifth as a team at 4-over-par 868 (284-300-284) and saw Jakob Henriksson, Gustav Fransson and Carter Morgan place inside the top 20.

"We played nicely in the first round and third round, but not very well in the second," head coach Murray Rudisill said. "I was very proud of our new freshman Jakob Henriksson. This was our first event of the spring, and a number of the teams had already played in two or three tournaments."

Henriksson turned in an even-par 72 to finish the tournament tied for seventh at 4-under 212. The freshman finished each of his three rounds at or under par, carding back-to-back 70s on Monday. He went 7-under on par-5 holes at the tournament, which was tied for third best, and had 14 total birdies.

Fransson finished three shots behind Henriksson in a tie for 13th at 1-under 215. The senior from Umea, Sweden went under par for a second time with a 1-under 71 on Tuesday.

Morgan produced ODU's best round of the tournament with a 3-under 69 in the final round to jump seven spots up the leaderboard. The native of Tappahannock, Virginia ended in a tie for 19th at 1-under 217. Morgan wrapped up the tournament at 2-under on the par-3s, tied for second best in the field.

The Monarchs finished the tournament with the third-best score on par-5 holes at 16-under.

Middle Tennessee won the Southern Invitational at 21-under 843 (281-291-271), nine strokes better than second-place VCU and Mercer.

Spurred on by a tournament-best 64 in the final round, Campbell's Pontus Nyholm took medalists honors at 9-under 207, edging out VCU's Peter Gasperini by a single stroke.

ODU returns to action March 12-14 at the Pinehurst Intercollegiate at Pinehurst #8 in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

"We have a week to go get ready for Pinehurst, and hopefully we will have an opportunity to win down there," Rudisill said. "We have a wonderful group of young men this year, and it's a pleasure to be around them."
