NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion baseball team is set to host Rhode Island for a three-game series at the Bud Metheny Baseball Complex this weekend.

To accommodate Monarch fans as a result of the difficult circumstances related to the pandemic, the ODU Athletics department is pleased to offer free admission to all ODU baseball games for the 2021 season.

ODU (4-0) is coming off a series sweep over crosstown rival Norfolk State, where they combined for 50 runs over the four-game series, while holding the Spartans to just eight runs. Junior Andy Garriola currently leads the nation with 13 RBIs this season. The Sierra Madre, California native notched a game-high five on Tuesday against Norfolk State.

Friday's contest marks just the fifth contest between the two teams. The last time the Rams and Monarchs met was a weekend series in 2006, where ODU won two of the three games. Prior to that, ODU met with the Rams once in 1989.

The Monarchs weekend rotation made up of junior RHP Hunter Gregory, junior RHP Ryne Moore and junior RHP Nick Pantos, all saw action in the Monarchs opening series against Norfolk State. The trio currently has a combined 19 strikeouts in 12 innings pitched.

Head coach Chris Finwood is nearing his 250th win as the Monarch skipper. Entering the Monarchs series versus Rhode Island, Finwood checks in at 247 Monarch wins.
