NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion University athletics department applied for and was accepted to the NFLPA Externship program, ODU and the NFLPA (National Football League Players Association) announced today.

The NFLPA Externship is a unique opportunity for current NFL players to prepare for opportunities now and in the future with experience from organizations around the country. By participating in the program, players will be able to get hands-on experience, discover career and industry interests, build their networks, gain confidence for their future endeavors.

"ODU athletics is excited about partnering with the NFLPA to foster a mutually beneficial relationship between our student-athletes and current professional athletes. Our students will engage in educational programming concerning personal and professional development from an individual who has been successful at the highest football level," ODU Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Services Ron Moses said. "In turn, the professional athlete can gain work experience through this externship and prepare themselves for life after football. This is a program we hope to expand upon and continue for years to come."

After an initial screening, the NFLPA will send applications to ODU and the athletic department will interview candidates for the position of a student/player development role. The selected candidate is expected to start in February.
