NORFOLK, Va. - The Old Dominion field hockey team is set to open their season on Friday, August 30 at 5 p.m. as they host No. 11 Virginia. Admission is free to all.
The Monarchs were picked to finish in fourth place in the 2019 BIG EAST Field Hockey Preseason Coaches’ Poll, while Rebecca Birch and Erin Huffman were selected preseason All Big-East. Birch led ODU with 10 goals and 23 points last season and earned first-team All Big-East honors, while also earning second-team All-Region accolades. Huffman was second on the squad with nine goals and 22 points, also earning first-team All Big-East honors and was named first-team All-Region.
Head coach Andrew Griffiths is in his seventh season at the helm of the program. Griffiths led ODU to three wins over ranked opponents last season and has so far compiled 58 wins during his time in Norfolk.
Series History
Last season ODU defeated the No. 8 Wahoos, 2-1 in overtime on the road. The Monarchs hold a 36-17 all-time record against UVA.
