MOBILE, Ala. – Old Dominion men’s tennis downed South Alabama in a 4-3 thriller on Friday afternoon.
Old Dominion began the afternoon with No. 2 Thomas Nelson and Connor Van Schalkwyk downing Juan Accossatto and Harold Van Raemdonck by a 6-3 score to begin the doubles matches. To secure the first point of the match, No. 1 Adam Majchrzak and Cosme Rolland De Ravel defeated Braden Hannig and Javier Montoya (6-3), suspending No. 3 Jean-Karim Olivier de Sardan’s and Yanis Moundir’s match against Victor Frumholz and Adam nizar Bouyacoub at 4-5.
No. 5 Olivier de Sardan continued to add to ODU’s lead by opening the singles matches with a win over Bouyacoub (6-2, 6-2), though Montoya put South Alabama on the board with a win over No. 1 Rolland De Ravel (6-3, 6-2). USA took the lead after No. 3 Van Raemdonck and No. 2 Hannig defeated Majchrzak (6-4, 6-3) and Van Schalkwyk (7-5, 6-2) respectively. To tie the game, No. 6 Aryan Saleh downed Frumholz (6-3, 6-1), leaving the match-securing point to No. 4 Moundir and Accossatto. In extra sets, Moundir came out victorious by a 5-7, 7-5, 6-3 score.
The Monarchs continue their road trip on Sunday as they take on Troy at 11 a.m. at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.
