NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men’s tennis advanced to 2-0 in Sun Belt Conference play after defeating Georgia Southern 4-1 on Saturday afternoon.

In an outdoor match, the Monarchs began the day with a doubles win from No. 3 Jean-Karim Olivier de Sardan and Yanis Moundir against Alex Suk and Pol Del Castillo (6-3). No. 2 teammates Cosme Rolland De Ravel and Adam Majchrzak closed out doubles play after defeating Pierre Mouesca and Dimitris Paliouras (6-3). The win gave ODU the first point and suspended No. 1 brother duo Codie and Connor Van Schalkwyk’s match against Laurent Julia Calac and Aaron Williams (6-5).

No. 6 Aryan Saleh kicked off the singles matches with a win over Milan Ristov (6-2, 6-1), though No. 4 Mouesca put the Eagles on the board after defeating Olivier de Sardan (6-4, 7-5). No. 2 Connor Van Schalkwyk put the Monarchs one point away from clinching the match after besting Del Castillo in extra sets (2-6, 6-4, 6-2), and No. 1 Rolland De Ravel gave ODU the win by defeating Paliouras (7-6, 6-2). No. 3 Codie Van Schalkwyk’s and No. 5 Moundir’s matches against respective opponents Williams (4-6, 6-4, 5-5) and Julia Calac (6-7, 6-0, 3-5) were suspended.

Old Dominion remains home to host Coastal Carolina at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 23 in the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
