ATLANTA, Ga. – Old Dominion women’s tennis fell to No. 24 Georgia Tech in its last road game of the weekend by a 4-0 score.

“Tough result today," Head Coach Dominic Manilla said. "We lost some key points in the dubs that got us off to an early 0-1 deficit. In singles we were in the midst of a momentum surge that felt like we were going to turn the match our way but unfortunately they were able to secure the fourth point at number 1 singles where we have had so much success this season. Hats off to Georgia Tech, they played a heck of a match today. This weekend had its ups and downs, we were happy to do well in our SBC match play. I’m happy with where we are at this point in the season. Go monarchs.”

The Yellow Jackets began the morning with a doubles win from No. 2 Alejandra Cruz and Given Roach over Lidiia Rasskouskaia and Ulyana Romanova (6-2). Teammates No. 1 Kylie Bilchev and Scarlett Nicholson downed Monarchs Sofia Johnson and Victoria Matasova (6-2) to put Georgia Tech on the board first. No. 3 Marina Markina’s and Kira Matushkina’s match against Taly Licht and Meera Jesudason was suspended at 4-5.

No. 5 Licht continued to add onto Georgia Tech’s lead with a win over Matasova (6-2, 6-2) to open the singles matches. No. 2 Cruz, who’s ranked 113th in the nation, followed suit by downing Matushkina (6-1, 6-0), and No. 1 teammate Nicholson, who places 94th in the nation, secured the Yellow Jacket’s win as she defeated No. 10 Johnson (6-3, 6-3). Monarchs No. 3 Rasskouskaia, No. 4 Romanova, and No. 6 Markina had their matches against respective opponents Kate Sharabura (6-3, 4-6, 1-1), Roach (1-6, 6-4), and Olivia Carneiro (7-5, 2-4) suspended.

The Monarchs return home this week to host Sun Belt Opponents South Alabama on Friday, March 21 and Southern Miss on Sunday, March 23.
