JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – Barbara Car tied for ninth and Puneet Bajwa tied for 17th to lead Old Dominion women’s golf at the Briar’s Creek Invitational. Originally scheduled for three rounds, the tournament was shortened to 36 holes due to inclement weather on Monday.

ODU finished 13th in the team standings after combining for a 33-over par 609. Florida State captured the team title with a 9-under 567, and SMU and Purdue tied for second with a pair of 5-over 581s. FSU’s Mirabel Ting turned went 11-under with a 133 to earn individual medalist honors. Purdue’s Jasmine Kahler was the runner-up with a 6-under 138, while FSU’s Lottie Woad and SMU’s Mackenzie Lee tied for third with a couple of 5-under 139s.

“We are putting it together one piece at a time. It’s a process and we can’t rush the things on which we are working. If we can get our practice to transfer to the tournament, we will have the four scores we need to be successful,” said ODU Head Coach Mallory Kane.

Car, a freshman from Slovenia, hit an even 72 in Sunday’s opening round and followed up with a round of 71 on Tuesday to finish with a final tally of 143 (-1). Bajwa went two-under with a 70 for her first trip around the course at Briar’s Creek. The sophomore from India then posted a second round of 75 for a 36-hole total of 145. Mariana Arronte was next with a 159 to tie for 82nd, Lucia Gonzalez carded a 162 to tie for 92nd, and Carley Rudolf turned in a 167 to place 96th. Alina Shchepteva competed as an individual and tied for 87th with a total of 160.

“Great individual finishes by Barb and Puneet,” added Kane. “That was a very strong field and they represented us well.”

Up next for the Monarchs is a trip to Raleigh, North Carolina for a match play event against NC State on March 21-22 at Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
