ORLANDO, Fla.Lucia Gonzalez recorded a four-under par 212 to lead Old Dominion women’s golf at the PDI Intercollegiate, hosted by UCF over the past three days at Eagle Creek Golf Club.

The junior from Monterrey, Mexico finished the three-day tournament tied for 25th in the individual standings. She had her best round on Monday when she made seven birdies and posted a four-under 68 for the day. Gonzalez bookended that effort with a pair of even 72s and made a total of 11 birdies over the three days.

Barbara Car led the 96-player field with 44 made putts for par and ended up tied for 48th with an even score of 216. Puneet Bajwa was next, tying for 57th at two-over 218, Carley Rudolf turned in an 11-over 227 to tie for 86th, and Mariana Arronte shot an 18-over 234 to tie for 91st. Alina Shchepteva competed as an individual and tied for 83rd with a 10-over 226.

“I’m especially proud of Lucia for tying her career low of 68,” said ODU Head Coach Mallory Kane. “Barbara shot her career low in relationship to par (even for 54 holes), and Puneet had her first round under par of the season,” added Kane.

As a team, the Monarchs placed 14th with a 54-hole total of 873 (+9). Baylor captured the team title at 30-under 834, Duke came in second place at 28-under 836, and North Carolina rounded out the top three finishers with a 24-under 840.

Kansas’ Lauren Clark shot a 15-under 201 to earn individual medalist honors, and Baylor’s Silje Ohma was the runner-up at 10-under 206. There was a four-way tie for third as Nebraska’s Danica Lundgren, North Carolina’s Helen Young, USF’s Cherry Marley and Mississippi State’s Izzy Pellot all hit nine-under totals of 207.

“It feels good to be back on the course competing,” added Kane. “We expected the scores to be low and they certainly were. We need a little better play from our No. 4 and 5 players to reach our potential. It will be nice to have a few weeks to prepare for our next event.”

Next up for the team is the Momentum Transportation UNF Collegiate on March 3-4 at Jacksonville Golf and Country Club.
