WACO, Texas – Old Dominion Men’s Tennis player Connor van Schalkwyk dropped a hard fought three-set match to Shunsuke Mitsui of Tennessee on Monday night in the first round of the NCAA Men’s Singles Tournament, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
“A tough loss today. This match was decided by the smallest of margins as the score indicates,” ODU Head Coach Dominik Mueller said. “Connor left everything on the court and went toe-to-toe with a top 20 player. Unfortunately, it didn’t go his way but I’m very proud of him. He had a fantastic fall and I can’t wait to carry that momentum into the spring.”
After splitting the first two sets, van Schalkwyk jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third set but Mitsui took six of the next eight sets to claim the third set 6-4.
