ODUSports.com sat down with Lady Monarch swimmer Morgan Johnson for a Q&A.
When did you first start swimming? I first started swimming when I was five years old, but I didn’t start competitively until I was seven.
When did you first decide to swim in college? I guess the entire time in high school I pretty much knew my goal was to swim in college, so freshman year in high school.
Why did you choose ODU? I swam for a club team that had like eight people on it, so it was always really close knit and that is what I was looking for in a college team. When I came here, that is really what I saw in this team
What is your favorite stroke to swim? My favorite stroke would probably be freestyle because it is my best stroke.
What is your least favorite stroke to swim and why? Backstroke because my feet go numb a lot in backstroke.
Who inspires you the most? I would say my grandfather because he basically came from nothing and built a name for himself.
What is a goal/goals you have set for yourself this season? I want to try to get the school record in the 100-freestyle.
What are your top three favorite movies? V for Vendetta, Shawshank Redemption, and Bridesmaids.
Who can you turn to on the swim/dive team to always make you laugh and why? Probably my best friend, Juliana, because she is Brazilian and she gets her words mixed up all the time and it cracks me up.
What can we find you doing when you are not swimming or in a classroom? Playing with my dog, Bella.
Who is the person in your life who has gotten you to where you are today? My dad. He is always motivating me and he did sports in high school and college so he is promoter of that.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? I would probably say Brazil just because Juliana and I have grown really close and I would like to see her culture and where she comes from.
What has been your most memorable experience while swimming here at ODU? I think anything that we do as a team that is successful but especially any relay that I have been in with other girls that’s been successful. I have been on a few where we have gotten the record and that’s been really fun.
