2021-22: Played in five games averaging four minutes per outing … Scored two points and had two rebounds in season opener over Virginia Wesleyan (11/10) … Had two points against Florida Atlantic (2/24).

2020-21: Appeared in eight contests, averaging 1.4 minutes per outing … Averaged 0.3 points per game and 0.4 rebounds per game … Scored a career high two points at FIU, grabbed a career high three rebounds versus Marshall.

PREP: First Team All-Triangle Independent School Athletic Conference honoree … Averaged 14.3 points, 7.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists as a junior at Ravenscroft High School under head coach Kevin Billerman.
 
PERSONAL: O'Connell's father, Dave, played basketball at Duke from 1973-76 … Has two brothers, Shawn and Alex; Shawn played basketball at Georgia Southern, before playing his final year as a graduate transfer at UNC Wilmington in 2018-19, while Alex is currently a senior guard on the Creighton basketball team after transferring from Duke after his junior season.
