NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion Volleyball Head Coach Fred Chao has added to his 2025 recruiting class with the signing of two transfers in Wiktoria Zagumny and Kyra Hampton. The pair join fellow 2025 commits Rita Benidio and Katie Rakoski.

"Wiktoria and Kyra are fantastic additions to the Monarch family. Both setters possess the physicality and athleticism to play front and back row," Chao said of the two newest Monarchs.

Wiktoria Zagumny | Setter | Warsaw, Poland | Zespół Szkół Geodezyjno-Drogowych (Chicago State)

Zagumny made 29 starts and played in 104 sets for Chicago State in 2024. She finished her sophomore season with 965 assists (9.28 per set), 76 kills, 25 services aces, 224 digs (2.12 per set) and 50 blocks. The Warsaw, Poland native recorded double-digit assists in all 29 matches and had 40 or more assists eight times, including a season-high 52 assists against LIU in the first round of the Northeast Conference championship on Nov. 22. She also tallied eight double-doubles in 2024.

Zagumny was voted NEC Setter of the Year to go along with a spot on the All-Conference First Team. She helped a Chicago State offense that had the top-two most efficient hitters in the conference. The Cougars defeated FDU in straight sets to capture the NEC tournament title and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history.

“Wiktoria is a skilled setter who has high level international experience from her home in Poland,” said Chao. “She has a maturity and poise that encourages those around her to compete at their best. She has already led her previous team to postseason play in both the NIVC and the NCAA tournament. She will benefit from our strength and conditioning program this spring, which will help her speed and range. Wiktoria is also a strong net presence who can second ball attack as well as block.”

Why ODU?

“After long conversations with a lot of schools and coaching staffs, Old Dominion was one of my favorites. Immediately I felt a good connection with coaches and teammates. Strong academics and beautiful volleyball facility were the key elements for me to come here. I’m really happy with my decision and I can’t wait to represent ODU on the court!”

Kyra Hampton | Setter | Franklin, Tenn. | Battle Ground Academy (Virginia Tech)

Hampton comes to Norfolk after spending the past two seasons at Virginia Tech, though she did not make an appearance for the Hokies. A four-year letterwinner at Battle Ground Academy, the setter from Franklin, Tennessee helped her team capture two state championships in 2021 and 2022. Her school reached the state’s Final Four in three different seasons and won four District titles and three Region titles. In 2021 as a junior, Hampton was named the State and All-Tournament District MVP and also earned a spot on the All-State and All-District Teams. She also Earned spot on the All-Midstate High School Team and the Main Street Preps All-Midstate Team.

Her senior season in 2022 saw her named a two-time Tennessean Athlete of the Week and five-time Nashville Top Performer. She was named the Region MVP and to the All-Region First Team as well as the All-District First Team and MVP. She earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team and was named the Tournament MVP, was named a Top 30 Nashville player to watch in the postseason, and was named to Volleyball Magazine’s Midseason High School Watch List.

“Kyra is a talented athlete with a high physical ceiling. She has an imposing block and has the capacity to be a very aggressive attacking setter. Through the interactions we’ve already had, she will be a great addition to the drive and chemistry of the group.  I’m looking forward to working with her and developing her talents this spring,” said Chao.

Why ODU?

“I picked ODU because of the positive and friendly environment. Fred and Becca were both so easy to talk to and made me feel so welcome and understood. The girls were all super friendly and genuine with me right from the start. Fred also has a great sense of humor making him easy to get along with in a non-volleyball setting. This program is solid and has some great talent, so I believe that they are building something special.”
